Rainwater Tanks
Continued
I've got a rainwater diverter on one of the downpipes on my house, which is directed to different areas of the front garden, whichever is most in need of water at the time it rains. A second downpipe goes straight to stormwater - something has got to go to the environment, after all!
The third downpipe is attached to a 2100 litre water tank, from which the overflow goes to the back garden. The overflow pipe can be moved around to wherever it is needed.
Even the garage has the gutter on one side connected to a small water tank; this one is a 500 litre tank, with an overflow to a 150 litre container. Also when these are full, we fill a 100 litre container and collect water in buckets, as when it rains, we save all we can get for the dry spells.

This is what the ground looks like in many parts of Southern Australia following over ten years drought. We all need to do as much as possible to save water.
